Book synopsis:

A jaded divorcee and a lovelorn billionaire get a second chance at romance.

Audrey Wilson is convinced love is a pipe dream, and she has the divorce decree to prove it. Not to mention a failing non-profit facility full of battered and abused women. When her best friend gets her heart broken by a guy who claims a dating coach taught him how to play women, Audrey is ready to confront this coach and make him pay.

And she has a hunch he’s none other than brainy billionaire Asher Weston.

Asher has a bad case of unrequited love that goes all the way back to his high school days. When one of his clients blackmails him, forcing him to find a wife on a deadline, he’s ready to give up on living happily ever after with the woman of his dreams.

Until she unexpectedly waltzes into his office.

A marriage of convenience gets him the wife he needs—and the woman he’s always loved. For Audrey, this platonic arrangement affords her non-profit some financial security while she secretly sets out to prove Asher is the mastermind behind her bestie’s heartache.

Can Asher and Audrey overcome a jealous secretary, a dangerous ex, and their own insecurities to build a future together?

My review

I have been in a rut when it has come to reading romance novels. I was getting bored with the same old plotlines used over and over again. It was getting to the point where I was avoiding read any romance novel I had in my waiting to be reviewed pile. Which meant Trusting the Billionaire got pushed to the back of my list. I kept doing that until I missed the publication date.

I feel bad now that I have read the book. Trusting the Billionaire was not what I thought it was going to be. I was expecting a book that was heavy on the sex and light on the plot. Instead, the book I read was the complete opposite. No sex (yes, you read that right) and a fantastic plotline!!

I liked how the author chose to portray domestic violence. She didn’t sugarcoat it. She didn’t make it disappear. What Audrey went through with her ex-husband, unfortunately, is something that millions of women go through each year. Even the escalation of Duke’s stalking after six years was true to life.

I liked Audrey’s strength and her passion for her non-profit. She did annoy me. Her jealousy of Heifer was ridiculous. I did think she went overboard when her best friend got her heart broken. But, as I said at the beginning of the paragraph, I liked her.

I liked Asher too. But I got frustrated when he kept putting off telling Audrey who she was. There was a point in the book where I got mad and had to put the book down. I was ready to jump into the Kindle and shake him. But, I understood where he was coming from. He still suffered from confidence issues that began in high school.

I was a little “eh” with the storyline about The Love Coach. It didn’t do anything for me. I couldn’t understand how Audrey didn’t put two and two together with all the evidence that she saw. Like the tattoo matching the logo. Dead giveaway.

I also didn’t get how Audrey didn’t know that Lawrence and Asher were the same people. I understand that people change. But Asher knew things about her that only Lawrence would have. Like the dream wedding. That would have clued me in fast.

As I mentioned above, there is zero sex in this book. That made it such a refreshing read for me. There was plenty of chemistry and tension, but the author left it at that. I was able to use my imagination based on the steamy kisses that Asher and Audrey shared.

The end of Trusting the Billionaire was great. I liked how everything worked out for them. The three months later chapter was one of the best I have read. I got chills and teary-eyed reading it.

I would give Trusting the Billionaire an Adult rating. There is no sex. There is violence. There is language. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread Trusting the Billionaire. I would also recommend it to family and friends.

**I chose to leave this review after reading an advance reader copy**

I would like to thank the author for allowing me to read and review Trusting the Billionaire.

All opinions stated in this review of Trusting the Billionaire are mine.

Have you read Trusting the Billionaire?

Did you like it?

Would you be able to date/marry someone who lied by omission about who he was?

Let me know.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Wars.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Personal:

Miss R: Her allergies are under control. She started T-ball yesterday. Which was funny because she wasn’t a fan of running around. Told her dad and myself that she was done with the day when we got to the car. Which she was. She fell as asleep right after her shower.

Mr. Z: He had sex ed this week. In this school system, sex ed is started in 5th grade. The school system brings in people to talk to the kids on their grade level. So, I asked Mr. Z how it went on Monday. He turned beet red and didn’t want to talk about it. I did get out of him that they talked about body image. But everything else, he didn’t want to talk about it.

Miss B: She has been a moody teen this past week. Everything is eyerolls and huge sighs. I told her that if she rolled her eyes any harder, that they would fall out. She didn’t appreciate that. I did have to take her to the Dr last week. She was running a fever and was getting dizzy when standing up along with bad headaches. Diagnosis: She had a viral infection. She also was dehydrated. The Dr was concerned about her headaches and said if they continued, to come back in and they would run more tests. She’s to drink 64oz of water a day and sit in the sun for an hour.

Me: More yard work this past weekend. Our back area had been neglected. So, I took my huge clippers, the hacksaw, and a pair of gloves and went to work. End result: A huge pile of baby trees and nettles in front of my house. I am hurting but it was worth it. It looks nice back there!!

Reading/Reviews:

Reading: I am still struggling to finish books. But with the kids not feeling well and me being up late at night with Miss R’s coughing, I’m not surprised by that. I did get a chance to sit down yesterday and read. I finished 2 books!! I am 5 books behind on my Goodreads reading challenge. Not too worried about that either. Come summer, I’ll more than catch up.

Review/Blog: I am trying to find a happy place with writing my reviews. I am going back and forth with ways of writing them. So, apologizes if you see a ton of changes.

As for the blog, I decided to splurge on myself last week. I upgraded my Grammarly to the premium package (it was on sale, which was fantastic). I got rid of Hemingway because the premium package does everything that Hemingway did. I am also feeling the itch to change my blog’s appearance again. If I do decide to do change the blog again, I apologize.

What I am currently reading:

The Ash Family: A Novel by [Dektar, Molly]
click on the picture for the Amazon link

When a young woman leaves her family—and the civilized world—to join an off-the-grid community headed by an enigmatic leader, she discovers that belonging comes with a deadly cost, in this lush and searing debut novel.

At nineteen, Berie encounters a seductive and mysterious man at a bus station near her home in North Carolina. Shut off from the people around her, she finds herself compelled by his promise of a new life. He ferries her into a place of order and chaos: the Ash Family farm. There, she joins an intentional community living off the fertile land of the mountains, bound together by high ideals and through relationships she can’t untangle. Berie—now renamed Harmony—renounces her old life and settles into her new one on the farm. She begins to make friends. And then they start to disappear.

Thrilling and profound, The Ash Family explores what we will sacrifice in the search for happiness, and the beautiful and grotesque power of the human spirit as it seeks its ultimate place of belonging.

I am not sure if I am going to like The Ash Family. I am only a couple of chapters and and Berie/Harmony is rubbing me the wrong way. The book also got off to a slow start. But, I am going to hang in there and hope that it gets better. The Ash Family and currently on pre-order. It’s expected publication date is April 9th, 2019.

Love, Again by [Dover, L.P.]

Sometimes all you need is a second chance.

“L. P. Dover knows how to create the men who make us swoon, the book boyfriends we all want.”—New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin

But after Aubrey admits to herself what she’s really missing, she heads back home to Dusty Valley, Oklahoma . . . and the man she left behind.

Cole Haywood is a small-town fireman and that’s just fine with him. Sure, when the love of his life left their hometown to chase her dreams he was heartbroken and—he’ll admit—damn mad. Lord Thomas Hobbs, Duke of Huntley, thinks his best friend Delilah’s quest to become a duchess is ridiculous. He’s always said he’d rather give up all the brandy in London than commit to one person for life. Besides, he knows that Delilah’s love potion can’t possibly win over Branville…since she accidentally gave it to him instead. But perhaps this is the excuse he needs to show her he’s always loved her…

Delilah can’t believe she gave the potion to the wrong duke. Then again, Delilah could do a lot worse than win the hand of her handsome best friend. Could it be that the right duke has been before her eyes all along?

But underneath his cool and calm exterior, Fallon secretly yearns for a much different life than the one he was born into.

Novi Navarro is a working-class barmaid who’s used to running her tavern and running her mouth. When she gets assigned to Prince Fallon’s harem by mistake, she thinks it’s a complete joke. She makes a deal with Fallon for them to both get what they want from this administrative oversight. But when members of the Blackwood Court discover her true identity, she quickly learns that she must beat them at their game…or die.

The Three Ws are:

Personal:

Miss R: She’s sick again…sigh. Two nights of her up all night coughing. I took her to the Dr and her lungs are fine. She’s to take Flonase in the morning and a Benadryl at night. Limit her outdoor time when the pollen levels are high. Have I mentioned that I’m not fond of this time of year?

Miss B: She’s doing pretty good. She has cleared up her homework/classwork debacle. Her ELA teacher also called me and we talked about that. Now if I can get her to keep her room clean, everything will be good.

Mr. Z: He loved the field trip. I do think that the school could have scheduled the pick up time a little better. The kids came home when school was dismissed. It was a mess. I went a little early and got a good parking space. Other people, not so much.

Me: I did yard work last weekend. I bagged up at least 15 bags of leaves. BK and I also discussed how much mulch we were going to need for the front of the house. I also convinced BK to throw out several outdoor toys that Miss R didn’t use any more. I have also been spring cleaning around the house.

Reading/Reviews:

Reading: I have been struggling to read and finish books. I’m not worried about it, I always go through a slump in the spring and fall.

Review: My NetGalley shelf is slightly high. A few books that I requested before my self imposed NetGalley ban got approved. Plus, I have authors and publishers approaching me with widgets to their books. So yeah…lol.

What I am currently reading:

The Night Window: A Jane Hawk Novel by [Koontz, Dean]

Groundbreaking, wholly involving, eerily prescient and terrifyingly topical, Dean Koontz’s Jane Hawk series sets a new standard for contemporary thrillers. Since her sensational debut in The Silent Corner, readers have been riveted by Jane Hawk’s resolute quest to take down the influential architects of an accelerating operation to control every level of society via an army of mind-altered citizens. At first, only Jane stood against the “Arcadian” conspirators, but slowly others have emerged to stand with her, even as there are troubling signs that the “adjusted” people are beginning to spin viciously out of control. Now, in the thrilling, climactic showdown that will decide America’s future, Jane will require all her resources–and more–as she confronts those at the malevolent, impregnable center of power.

This book is a good as I thought it was going to be. If Miss R hadn’t been sick last night, I would have finished it in one sitting. The Night Window is currently on pre order. It’s expected publication date is May 14th, 2019

I recently finished reading:

The Soul of Power (The Waking Land Book 3) by [Bates, Callie]

click on the picture for the Amazon link

One young woman learns the true nature of power–both her own and others’–in the riveting conclusion to The Waking Land Trilogy.

Sophy Dunbarron–the illegitimate daughter of a king who never was–has always felt like an impostor. Separated from her birth mother, raised by parents mourning the loss of their true daughter, and unacknowledged by her father, Sophy desires only a place and a family to call her own. But fate has other ideas. Caught up in Elanna Valtai’s revolution, Sophy has become the reigning monarch of a once-divided country–a role she has been groomed her whole life to fill.

But as she quickly discovers, wearing a crown is quite a different thing from keeping a crown. With an influx of magic-bearing refugees pouring across the border, resources already thinned by war are stretched to the breaking point. Half the nobility in her court want her deposed, and the other half question her every decision. And every third person seems to be spontaneously manifesting magical powers.

When Elanna is captured and taken to Paladis, Sophy’s last ally seems to have vanished. Now it is up to her alone to navigate a political maze that becomes more complex and thorny by the day. And worse, Sophy is hiding a huge secret–one that could destroy her tenuous hold on the crown forever.

This book was fantastic. What a fitting ending to a wonderful series. The Soul of Power is currently on pre order. It’s expected publication date is June 4th, 2019.

The Invited: A Novel by [McMahon, Jennifer]

A chilling ghost story with a twist: the New York Times best-selling author of THE WINTER PEOPLE, returns to the woods of Vermont to tell the story of a husband and wife who don’t simply move into a haunted house, they start building one from scratch, without knowing it, until it’s too late…

In a quest for a simpler life, Helen and Nate abandon the comforts of suburbia and teaching jobs to take up residence on forty-four acres of rural land where they will begin the ultimate, aspirational do-it-yourself project: building the house of their dreams. When they discover that this charming property has a dark and violent past, Helen, a former history teacher, becomes consumed by the legend of Hattie Breckenridge, a woman who lived and died there a century ago. As Helen starts carefully sourcing decorative building materials for her home – wooden beams, mantles, historic bricks — she starts to unearth, and literally conjure, the tragic lives of Hattie’s descendants, three generations of “Breckenridge women,” each of whom died amidst suspicion, and who seem to still be seeking something precious and elusive in the present day.

I can’t wait to read this book. It sounds super creepy. The Invited is currently on pre order. It’s expected publication date is April 30th, 2019.
