Enzo appears to be following Carrie as she tours around the island; is he smitten, as Millie maintains, or does he have criminal intentions, as suggested by another of her fellow travellers? And if so, is he responsible for a series of antiquities’ burglaries? Or is he on the hunt for Excalibur, the legendary sword rumoured to be lost in Sicily, a sword forged by the ancient Roman blacksmith, Vulcan, god of fire? Carrie and Millie decide to investigate, but their amusement palls when the adventure takes an unpleasant turn as someone, it seems, is playing with fire.

Living in Paris, Kentucky, and having a sidekick cat named Pepe le Pew gives Marci Beaucoup’s life a certain je ne sais quoi . Combining her love of baking and France, Marci opened La Belle Patisserie to bring her small Southern hometown a bit of French flair and lots of croissants. Everything is sunshine and macarons at the bakery until her landlord calls to tell her she’s selling the property. Marci’s relieved to hear that if the top bidder, an enchanting Frenchman named Antoine Dubois, gets the property, he’ll renew her bakery’s lease. Charmed by Antoine, Marci figures this development isn’t half bad and sees a handsome new landlord in her future—but then Antoine’s estranged ex-girlfriend Kelly turns up dead in front of her bakery. Sacrebleu!
Everyone calls Marci’s pastries “to die for,” but nobody’s actually died at La Belle Patisserie before. Antoine quickly becomes the main suspect to everyone in Paris—including to womanizing detective Maverick Malone. Who else would have killed Kelly but the ex-boyfriend she was just seen fighting with on the day of her death?
Marci finds out from her landlord that if Antoine is arrested, his purchase of her building will fall through—and her landlord will sell to developers instead, who plan to demolish the building and construct a strip mall in its place. Enamored with Antoine and with her patisserie dreams hanging in the balance, Marci is determined to prove Maverick and the rest of Paris wrong and find the true killer before Antoine winds up in jail—and she has to say au revoir to her bakery.
Now Marci finds herself mixed up in the murder investigation, and she must find the killer before her half-baked theories result in her untimely death.

His chance comes when he is paid a fortune to bring down The Raving Blade, one of Hell’s Labyrinth’s most infamous and sadistic power brokers. It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kid-litfocus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle-grade novels, young adult novels, or anything in those genres – join them.
Compared to the previous week, last week was pretty low-key. Like last week, I am going to bullet point the highlights.
The top of my street is still closed, but it hasn’t stopped people from driving around the barriers to get to the main street. I heard a huge bang on Thursday and found out from a neighbor (who was walking in the area) that the car drove around the barriers and hit the curbs still in place. Which in turn wrecked their tires and scraped up the underside of their car. My neighbor said the person driving was screaming about suing the DoT and the city. Sigh….can’t fix stupid.
Miss R is cantering over cross-rails in horseback riding. Her lessons kept getting moved around, but her trainer and I decided that Wednesday at 5 pm is perfect. The sun’s going down (so the horses won’t overheat) and Miss R won’t get sunburnt.
Mr. Z broke the chain on his Herbst device Thursday night and the orthodontist wasn’t open until today. I still don’t know how he broke it.
I made a Creamy Kitchen Garden Pasta on Wednesday and Maggie’s Ranch Chicken on Friday. The kids loved both. Click on the links to be taken to the recipe. FYI: I found a quick, easy way to make honey mustard dip on the chicken recipe. Take the glaze recipe, add cornstarch and water, and bam, dipping sauce.
So, that’s my catch-up. Anything exciting or different happen this week?
Here is what I am planning on reading this week. Please let me know if you have read or are planning to read any of these books.
