Top Ten Tuesday: Spring Cleaning Freebie (or Last 10 Books I added to my TBR)

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

How it works:

She assigns each Tuesday a topic and then posts her top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join her and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.

I have a confession to make. I very rarely get rid of books from my TBR pile (which explains why I have so many). So, when I saw today’s prompt, I knew that I couldn’t do it. So, I decided to change it up and go with the last 10 books I added to my TBR pile. So, enjoy!! Also, let me know what books you decided to let go (or keep or added to your TBR). I am always looking to add to my already overfull TBR.

Goodreads synopsis:

Joseph Anderson has decided it’s time for his three successful sons to find brides. Joseph wants grandchildren to fill his mansion, and he wants them immediately. His eldest son, Lucas, is successful in all areas of his life, except love, and Joseph begins matchmaking. He finds Amy Harper and deems her the perfect daughter-in-law. He just needs to get her and Lucas to both realize they’re made for each other.

Lucas Anderson is wealthy, sexy, and stubborn. He has no desire to have any woman enter his life, causing chaos, or using his family’s name. Many women have tried, and he’s been successful in finding out who they are beneath their false smiles.

Amy Harper was raised in tragic circumstances and doesn’t like pampered, rich men who have been handed everything with a silver spoon. She spent years finishing her education and then received a job with the Anderson Corporation. She instantly doesn’t like her incredibly sexy boss, who is arrogant and thinks every woman should fall at his feet.

When Amy becomes pregnant after one reckless night of passion, she’s scared he’ll take the baby and run. Lucas is demanding and used to getting his way, but Amy has just the right amount of spark to ignite his fuse and challenges him each step of the way.

Lucas’s father, Joseph, and his brothers Alex and Mark offer laughter, love, and support. With the love of Lucas’s family, who aren’t only rich and successful, but also kind and giving, Amy starts to realize that being wealthy doesn’t make or break a man, and starts to picture the happily ever after she never believed in for herself.

What I liked about The Billionaire Wins the Game:

  1. Amy’s character. She came from horrible circumstances and rose above them. She had an inner strength that I don’t see in 90% of people in real life. And that’s sad when I compare a fictional character to real life, and real life is lacking.
  2. Lucas’s character: Again, another strong character, and man, he fought falling in love. I loved reading the scenes with Amy and Lucas together because the sparks came right off the page. The sexual tension (and when they had sex) was great!!! A must-have in a romance novel.
  3. The backstories. They were introduced so that you couldn’t help but like them and want to know more about them.

What I didn’t like about The Billionaire Wins the Game:

  1. As much as I loved Amy’s character, her extreme stubbornness got to me. At some point in the book, I wanted to reach through and slap her. Example: When Lucas forced Amy into his car to give her a ride home, she gave him the wrong address. Which wouldn’t have been bad, but she lived in the ghetto in the middle of the night.
  2. I got you pregnant, so I have to marry you because I don’t want the child born out of wedlock and be a bastard.” It’s not Victorian England; not being married and having kids are the norm. A forced wedding (and when I mean forced, Lucas implied that he would take the baby from Amy) is not cool.

Goodreads synopsis:

Jasmine Freeman’s world is about to tumble down around her and the one responsible for it is none other than her first love, Derek Titan. She hasn’t seen him in ten years, and they are both going to learn the truth of what happened back then.

Jasmine grew up wealthy and oblivious to the destruction her father caused all around him. Derek was from the wrong side of the tracks. In ten years their lives will be reversed. He is now a multi-billionaire tycoon and she works hard, but barely gets by due to her father’s unethical business practices.

Derek comes seeking revenge and instead finds out he has a half grown son and the woman he’s been angry with for so many years is not who he thought she was. They both fight against the passion they still feel for each other, but in the end it is irresistible.

Come take the journey with Derek and Jasmine as they rediscover a passion that never died and the lies that kept them apart.

What I liked about The Tycoon’s Revenge:

  1. It was one of my favorite types of romance novels. Boy and girl fall in love. The girl’s rich father decides they don’t belong together and breaks them up. The boy is under the assumption that the girl is using him and takes off. The girl thinks he stood her up at the altar and finds out she’s pregnant. Then they meet 10 years later.
  2. The sex scenes were hot, hot, hot!! I love the joke about “bigger the better” (you need to read the book to figure this out).
  3. The realness, well relative realness, of the characters.

What I didn’t like about The Tycoon’s Revenge:

  1. The unrealness of the book. I read it and in parts went, “WTF.”
  2. The sometimes corniness of the book. He meets his almost 10-year-old son, and there is an immediate bond; everything is hunky dory. So not real life.

If you enjoyed The Tycoon’s Revenge, you will enjoy these books.
