Book synopsis:

Every inch of him was molded as if from granite…and her blood ran like fire…

For centuries, V has waited to awaken from his doomed sleep and reclaim his destiny. But this Dragon King–one among a legion of legendary warriors sworn to protect the human race from darkness–must first find a way to win back his sword. Wield its power. And try not to fall prey to his own illicit desires.

Claire may possess the beauty and soul of a goddess but V knows better than to mess with a mere mortal. Still, he instinctively knows that Claire is The One who can help him regain the use of his sword and restore his place at Dreagan. But if she learns the truth about who–and what–he really is, her memories of him would be erased forever. How can V love Claire truly, madly, deeply…and protect her from the forces of fire and darkness that could destroy them both?

My Review:

I can’t even begin to express how excited I was to read this book. My excitement grew when I saw that it was V and Claire’s story. I couldn’t wait to read Ignite. Ignite more than lived up to my expectations!!

I loved Claire, and I would read her chapters with a grin on my face. Her ups and downs with dating were amusing. I found myself laughing more during this book than I have in the other books that I reviewed. I did figure out one of her secrets. It wasn’t too hard. The other one, though, I was surprised.

I couldn’t get enough of V in this book. He was dealing with a lot at the beginning of the book. He couldn’t use his sword (and not that one, dirty mind!!!). Since he couldn’t use the sword, he couldn’t call the dragons home. He was starting to get depressed and was going back to sleep when he noticed Claire. I loved how he seesawed back and forth on dating her. In my head, during those scenes, I was yelling at him to “Just go for it!!“.

Dragon on Light Up LED Orb Statue

I loved the plotlines of Ignite. I couldn’t put the book down. It was so fast paced that I was afraid that it was going to burn itself out in spots. I liked that the author was able to juggle a few storylines without letting any lag happen. The storylines were V and Claire’s love story, the Others, and Usaeil’s scheming.

I was frustrated with the lack of information on the Others and why they existed. I wanted to know what they wanted to defeat the Dragon Kings. Hints were given but still. I want to know now! I am sure more will be revealed as this series (and the other series) continue.

I was so upset over what Usaeil did to V and Claire. My heart dropped, and yes, I started to cry. That wasn’t fair to them. I am hoping that Rhi can find her and end her. That will be a death that I will be happy to read.

LEGO Elves Rosalyn’s Healing Hideout

The end of Ignite was interesting. Another of the Others came out of the shadows. Alliances were made. People disappeared. None of the storylines were wrapped up. All the questions I have about the Others are making me read the next book.

V and Claire had unbelievable chemistry. It sparked in every single scene that they had together. Their first sexual encounter (notice I didn’t say the first time they had sex) was nothing short of amazing. And let’s not forget the first time they had sex. Blazing hot!!

I would give Ignite an Adult rating. There is sex. There is violence. There is language. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would like to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Ignite.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Wars.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Personal:

Miss R: She’s alright except for her allergies. We are in the middle of what internet meme’s call The Pollinating and the poor kid is miserable. Despite that, she is enjoying t-ball and playing outside.

Miss B: She has been more enjoyable to be around. Which is nice. She is even doing her chores (which is cleaning the litter box 2xs a day and loading/unloading the dishwasher) without complaining. Schoolwise, we are still fighting with her to turn stuff in. I will be glad when this school year is over.

Mr. Z: I think sex ed scarred him…lol. He was telling us everything that was going to happen to him and said “I’m not letting it happen.” Well, yeah, its going to happen anyway, bud. Sorry about that. He is ripping through the Artemis Fowl series. I think he’s on book 3 or 4. BK mentioned that we’re going to have to get him more. BTW, we buy used off of Amazon. With the exception of one book, they were all in excellent condition. And super cheap.

Me: I have blisters. Why? Because BK bought my brand new Chucks (my first pair in years!!) and I am breaking them in. Oh the pain. Even with bandaids on. But I will get over it. I hope.

We tilled the garden last weekend and threw fertilizer over it. I am hoping to buy a couple bags of manure and till those under next weekend, weather permitting. We should be able to plant after April 15th. Barring any freakish weather (like Tuesday, when it snowed in Charlotte), we will be planting our potatoes and any seedlings in the pots. We are also going to deep clean under our deck. Old toys, broken toys, toys that aren’t being used….going to the curb. Same goes for chairs and other stuff (like the umbrella BK kept saying he would fix after a storm turned it inside out).

Reading/Reviews:

Reading: Well, I am over my slump. I have read more books this week than I have read in the last couple of weeks. Since I have been reading more, it means that I have been writing more blog posts. Which is a good thing.

Reviews: Like I said above, I have been writing more blog posts. I am liking this whole laid back approach to writing reviews. I am not stressed and I feel that I am putting out better reviews.

Blog: I finally have settled on a theme/fonts that I liked for the blog. I forgot that since I upgraded to premium, I get unlimited themes. And I found the perfect one. So, no more changes.

I want to mention something weird that I noticed last night. I have all of you guys posts sent straight to my email. Last night, I noticed when I went into a post, it was saying that I wasn’t following that person. I spent 2 hours last night going through my followers. That started a chain reaction. I started removing people who’s links weren’t working/blogs were deleted. I ended up removing over 60 people. This morning, I was doing the same thing and noticed that the same thing was happening. I decided to look into it further. I discovered that if I hit the home button on the blog, it would show that I followed that person. But the post didn’t. Which is weird and I am going to be keeping an eye on it.

The other weird thing that I noticed was actually a few weeks in the making. I noticed that I was getting lesser and lesser emails from the people I follow. While I was mucking around in my followers, I noticed I could control what I got. That led me to going through each and every person I followed. I found that there were about 15 blogs that I wasn’t getting emails for. The weird thing….I had been getting emails from some of them until a couple of weeks ago. I changed the settings for them. The only thing I think could have happened is when I changed my theme, it put a bunch of people on what WordPress considers mute??

What I am currently reading:

Erin Kelly, the masterful author of He Said/She Said, delivers another irresistible, unputdownable novel of psychological suspense.

You can’t keep the secret.
You can’t tell the truth.
You can’t escape the past

Marianne was seventeen when she fled her home in Nusstead – leaving behind her family, her boyfriend, Jesse, and the body they buried. Now, thirty years later, forced to return to in order to help care for her sick mother, she can feel the past closing around her. And Jesse, who never forgave her for leaving in the first place, is finally threatening to expose the truth.

Marianne will do anything to protect the life she’s built, the husband and daughter who must never know what happened all those years ago. Even if it means turning to her worst enemy for help… But Marianne may not know the whole story – and she isn’t the only one with secrets they’d kill to keep.

I am not liking Stone Mothers. I am finding it hard to connect to the characters and the plot is slow. But, I have ended up liking books that have had rough starts. Stone Mothers is currently on pre-order. It’s expected publication date is April 23rd, 2019.

I recently finished reading:

The Promise by [Driscoll, Teresa]

click on the picture for the Amazon link

The chilling new psychological thriller from the #1 bestselling author of I Am Watching You.

It was their darkest secret. Three schoolgirls made a promise – to take the horrible truth of what they did to the grave.

Thirty years later, Beth and Sally have tried to put the trauma behind them. Though Carol has distanced herself from her former friends, the three are adamant that the truth must never come to light, even if the memory still haunts them.

But when some shocking news threatens to unearth their dark secret, Beth enlists the help of private investigator Matthew Hill to help her and Sally reconnect with estranged Carol – before the terrible act they committed as teenagers is revealed.

Beth wishes she could take back the vow they made.

But somebody is watching and will stop at nothing to ensure the secret stays buried. Now, with her beloved family in peril, can Beth still keep the promise?

This is an example of a book that got off to a rough start that I ended up loving. I couldn’t put it down and I was in tears by the end of the book. The Promise is currently available for purchase.

Because You're Mine: A Novel by [Frey, Rea]

But it’s the lies that keep you safe.

Single mother Lee has the daily routine down to a science: shower in six minutes. Cut food into perfect squares. Never leave her on-the-spectrum son Mason in someone else’s care. She’ll do anything—anything—to keep his carefully constructed world from falling apart. Do anything to keep him safe.

But when her best friend Grace convinces her she needs a small break from motherhood to recharge her batteries, Lee gives in to a weekend trip. Surely a long weekend away from home won’t hurt?
Noah, Mason’s handsome, bright, charismatic tutor—the first man in ages Lee’s even noticed—is more than happy to stay with him.

Forty-eight hours later, someone is dead.

But not all is as it seems. Noah may be more than who he claims to be. Grace has a secret—one that will destroy Lee. Lee has secrets of her own that she will do anything to keep hidden.
As the dominoes begin to fall and the past comes to light, perhaps it’s no mystery someone is gone after all…

Because You’re Mine is a breathtaking novel of domestic drama and suspense.

Prepare to stay up all night.

Extinction Of All Children (Book 1) by [Epps, L.J.]

A young adult, fantasy novel about a teenager who is the last eighteen-year-old in her territory. There will never be another child; every baby born after her has been taken away. Everyone wonders why she survived.

Emma Whisperer was born in 2080, in the small futuristic world of Craigluy. President Esther, in charge for the last twenty-two years, has divided their world into three territories, separated by classes—the rich, the working class, and the poor—because she believes the poor should not mingle with the others. And, the poor are no longer allowed to have children, since they do not have the means to take care of them.

Any babies born, accidentally or willfully, are killed. Emma is the last eighteen-year-old in her territory; every baby born after her has died. Somehow, she survived this fate.

During the president’s Monday night speech, she announces a party will be held to honor the last child in the territory, Emma Whisperer. Emma must read a speech, expressing how happy she is to be the last eighteen-year-old.

Emma doesn’t like the rules; she doesn’t believe in them. So, she feels she must rebel against them. Her family doesn’t agree with her rebellion, since they are hiding a big secret. If this secret gets out, it will be disastrous, and deadly, for her family.

During Emma’s journey, she meets—and becomes friends with—Eric. He is one of the guards for the president. She also befriends Samuel, another guard for the president, who is summoned to watch over her. As Emma meets new people, she doesn’t know who she can trust. Yet, she finds herself falling for a guy, something which has never happened before.

After doing what she feels is right, Emma finds herself in imminent danger. In the end, she must make one gut-wrenching decision, a decision that may be disastrous for them all.

So that’s it. Be on the lookout for the reviews of all these books in the near future.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Wars.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Personal:

Miss R: Her allergies are under control. She started T-ball yesterday. Which was funny because she wasn’t a fan of running around. Told her dad and myself that she was done with the day when we got to the car. Which she was. She fell as asleep right after her shower.

Mr. Z: He had sex ed this week. In this school system, sex ed is started in 5th grade. The school system brings in people to talk to the kids on their grade level. So, I asked Mr. Z how it went on Monday. He turned beet red and didn’t want to talk about it. I did get out of him that they talked about body image. But everything else, he didn’t want to talk about it.

Miss B: She has been a moody teen this past week. Everything is eyerolls and huge sighs. I told her that if she rolled her eyes any harder, that they would fall out. She didn’t appreciate that. I did have to take her to the Dr last week. She was running a fever and was getting dizzy when standing up along with bad headaches. Diagnosis: She had a viral infection. She also was dehydrated. The Dr was concerned about her headaches and said if they continued, to come back in and they would run more tests. She’s to drink 64oz of water a day and sit in the sun for an hour.

Me: More yard work this past weekend. Our back area had been neglected. So, I took my huge clippers, the hacksaw, and a pair of gloves and went to work. End result: A huge pile of baby trees and nettles in front of my house. I am hurting but it was worth it. It looks nice back there!!

Reading/Reviews:

Reading: I am still struggling to finish books. But with the kids not feeling well and me being up late at night with Miss R’s coughing, I’m not surprised by that. I did get a chance to sit down yesterday and read. I finished 2 books!! I am 5 books behind on my Goodreads reading challenge. Not too worried about that either. Come summer, I’ll more than catch up.

Review/Blog: I am trying to find a happy place with writing my reviews. I am going back and forth with ways of writing them. So, apologizes if you see a ton of changes.

As for the blog, I decided to splurge on myself last week. I upgraded my Grammarly to the premium package (it was on sale, which was fantastic). I got rid of Hemingway because the premium package does everything that Hemingway did. I am also feeling the itch to change my blog’s appearance again. If I do decide to do change the blog again, I apologize.

What I am currently reading:

The Ash Family: A Novel by [Dektar, Molly]
click on the picture for the Amazon link

When a young woman leaves her family—and the civilized world—to join an off-the-grid community headed by an enigmatic leader, she discovers that belonging comes with a deadly cost, in this lush and searing debut novel.

At nineteen, Berie encounters a seductive and mysterious man at a bus station near her home in North Carolina. Shut off from the people around her, she finds herself compelled by his promise of a new life. He ferries her into a place of order and chaos: the Ash Family farm. There, she joins an intentional community living off the fertile land of the mountains, bound together by high ideals and through relationships she can’t untangle. Berie—now renamed Harmony—renounces her old life and settles into her new one on the farm. She begins to make friends. And then they start to disappear.

Thrilling and profound, The Ash Family explores what we will sacrifice in the search for happiness, and the beautiful and grotesque power of the human spirit as it seeks its ultimate place of belonging.

I am not sure if I am going to like The Ash Family. I am only a couple of chapters and and Berie/Harmony is rubbing me the wrong way. The book also got off to a slow start. But, I am going to hang in there and hope that it gets better. The Ash Family and currently on pre-order. It’s expected publication date is April 9th, 2019.

I recently finished reading:

Trusting The Billionaire: A Marriage Of Convenience Romance (The Billionaire's Reluctant Bride Book 3) by [Savage, Cynthia]
click on the picture for the Amazon link

A jaded divorcee and a lovelorn billionaire get a second chance at romance.

Audrey Wilson is convinced love is a pipedream, and she has the divorce decree to prove it. Not to mention a failing non-profit facility full of battered and abused women. When her best friend gets her heart broken by a guy who claims a dating coach taught him how to play women, Audrey is ready to confront this coach and make him pay.

And she has a hunch he’s none other than brainy billionaire Asher Weston.

Asher has a bad case of unrequited love that goes all the way back to his high school days. When one of his clients blackmails him, forcing him to find a wife on a deadline, he’s ready to give up on living happily ever after with the woman of his dreams.

Until she unexpectedly waltzes into his office.

A marriage of convenience gets him the wife he needs—and the woman he’s always loved. For Audrey, this platonic arrangement affords her non-profit some financial security while she secretly sets out to prove Asher is the mastermind behind her bestie’s heartache.

Can Asher and Audrey overcome a jealous secretary, a dangerous ex, and their own insecurities to build a future together?

I was pleasantly surprised by Trusting the Billionaire. I wasn’t expecting it to have the depth that it did. It is also clean. Zero sex. Which I wasn’t expecting. Trusting the Billionaire is currently available for purchase.

Love, Again by [Dover, L.P.]

Sometimes all you need is a second chance.

“L. P. Dover knows how to create the men who make us swoon, the book boyfriends we all want.”—New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin

Aubrey Reynolds is a small-town girl who’s made it big. A successful Hollywood director, Aubrey doesn’t have time to linger on what could have been. But when a routine blood test comes back with a false positive, she decides to take some time off to do the things she’s always wanted to do: taste the famous chocolate chip cookies at the Minnesota State Fair, hike the Grand Teton National Park, scuba dive in the Caribbean. But after Aubrey admits to herself what she’s really missing, she heads back home to Dusty Valley, Oklahoma . . . and the man she left behind.

Cole Haywood is a small-town fireman and that’s just fine with him. Sure, when the love of his life left their hometown to chase her dreams he was heartbroken and—he’ll admit—damn mad. But Cole would have never forgiven himself if he had held Aubrey back from success. So the last thing he expects after all these years is to walk into his favorite bar one night and find the girl he’s always loved—there—looking for him. Maybe now’s the time to make his dreams come true.

No Other Duke But You (Playful Brides Book 11) by [Bowman, Valerie]

A lady with a love potion. A Duke who takes it by mistake. Romance and mischief ensues when plans go awry in No Other Duke But You by Valerie Bowman.

SINGLE LADY SEEKS DUKE

Lady Delilah Montebank has her marital sights set on the Duke of Branville. There’s just one problem: he barely knows she exists. But no matter, she’s got a plan to win him over with her charm, her wit—and perhaps the love potion she has in her possession wouldn’t hurt her cause…

Lord Thomas Hobbs, Duke of Huntley, thinks his best friend Delilah’s quest to become a duchess is ridiculous. He’s always said he’d rather give up all the brandy in London than commit to one person for life. Besides, he knows that Delilah’s love potion can’t possibly win over Branville…since she accidentally gave it to him instead. But perhaps this is the excuse he needs to show her he’s always loved her…

Delilah can’t believe she gave the potion to the wrong duke. Then again, Delilah could do a lot worse than win the hand of her handsome best friend. Could it be that the right duke has been before her eyes all along?

But when some shocking news threatens to unearth their dark secret, Beth enlists the help of private investigator Matthew Hill to help her and Sally reconnect with estranged Carol – before the terrible act they committed as teenagers is revealed.

Beth wishes she could take back the vow they made.

But somebody is watching and will stop at nothing to ensure the secret stays buried. Now, with her beloved family in peril, can Beth still keep the promise?

Prince of Persuasion (The Novi Navarro Chronicles Book 1) by [Cannaday, Emigh]

A dying king.
A dynasty in danger.
A prince with one duty: secure the succession.

Created when they intermingled with demons, the dark elves of Sinaryos have come to rely on humans to keep their race alive. The royal family is no exception, with a king on the verge of death, a court riddled with spies, and a broken line of succession. Despite everything working against him, Prince Fallon Blackwood has met all the demands of the crown for nearly a hundred years…except for one.

After avoiding this obligation for too long, the time has come for him to take a harem and prove that he’s capable of continuing his family’s bloodline and ensuring their control of the throne. But underneath his cool and calm exterior, Fallon secretly yearns for a much different life than the one he was born into.

Novi Navarro is a working-class barmaid who’s used to running her tavern and running her mouth. When she gets assigned to Prince Fallon’s harem by mistake, she thinks it’s a complete joke. She makes a deal with Fallon for them to both get what they want from this administrative oversight. But when members of the Blackwood Court discover her true identity, she quickly learns that she must beat them at their game…or die.
