Book synopsis (from Goodreads):

The future’s a gamble. Few people know what they really want, and those that reach it often find that it isn’t what they expected. Strange Circumstances is an anthology of stories exploring the predictability of fate and destiny… or rather their unpredictability. In the twelve twisted tales and fifteen flash-fiction pieces, Strange Circumstances explores the boundaries of our universe to see what lurks in the unknown, hidden within the mysteries of science, magic, extraterrestrials, religion and the paranormal. Amid celebrities who hit their peak and vanish, a tree that grows up from the floor of a moving train car, unspeakable conspiracy, monstrous espionage, and wicked sorcery, there is something within these pages for anyone who enjoys dark tales and twists of every sort.

My review:

I normally don’t review anthologies. I feel that it isn’t fair to the authors when I can’t do an in-depth review of their stories. So I stopped reviewing them. I didn’t stop reading them because, personally, I love them. I love the different writing styles displayed by different authors. When Weston asked me to review Strange Circumstances, I accepted. I have enjoyed reading this other books and figured that this one would be the same for me. Which it was.

I am going to keep this review short and sweet. This was a great book. The short stories were intriguing and in some cases, scary. The flash fiction at the end of the book was something I have never read before. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them but they were great. Just a snippet of a story. Enough to get my imagination going. Loved it!!!

I am not going to do a What I Liked/What I Disliked about Strange Circumstances.

I gave Strange Circumstances a 4-star rating. The short stories were well written. The flash fiction was something new and I l enjoyed reading them.

I would give Strange Circumstances an Adult rating. There is no sex. There is some mild language. There is some mild violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread Strange Circumstances. I would also recommend this book to family and friends.

I would like to thank Weston Kincaide for allowing me to read and review Strange Circumstances.

All opinions stated in this review of Strange Circumstances are mine.

**I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted bySam at Taking on a World of Wars. So here what I have read/are reading/will be reading.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Last week was a whirlwind. I had a mammogram (my annual) and I had an ultrasound done on my thyroid. Long story short, I have Hashimoto’s Disease and my thyroid was enlarged. My Dr wanted to make sure that it was alright. And it was. Which was a huge relief. I also started back to school shopping last week. Mr. Z’s shopping is halfway done. I won’t find out what is on Miss B’s list until we go to the open house next Friday. They start school on Monday. So yeah, cutting it close. Miss R’s list is very easy and I will be picking up this week. Also, if you don’t see much posts from me, BFA in WoW is now live. So yeah….lol.

What I am currently reading:

Carbon Replacements (The McAllister Justice Series #4)

(click on the picture for Amazon link)

The killer held a knife to her throat—the ultimate decision locked within a dark and deviant gaze.

Determined and dedicated, forensic pathologist Remie Tallin validates her talent by discerning a victim’s last moments of life. Returning to Portland signified her new beginning where a psychopathic stalker designates her a pawn in a seductive game of intrigue.

The lines between predator and prey blur in hunting a medical genius bent on resetting the laws of nature. Evidence has never failed to point Remie in the right direction, yet conflicting discoveries mock the legal system and defy the scientific arena for clarification.

Detective McAllister’s return from leave includes a new assignment along with a partner well versed in subtle sarcasm and innuendos. Discovering the new medical examiner unconscious at the scene of a grisly murder forces him to unite with his brothers against a world of chaos where reality shifts according to a psychopath’s desire.

I started Carbon Replacements late last night. So far I like it. Romantic thrillers are among some of my favorite books to read. Hopefully, it continues to be good. Carbon Replacements will not be published until 8-19-18. So be on the lookout for my review on that date.

Foundryside (Founders, #1)

(click on the picture for Amazon link)

In a city that runs on industrialized magic, a secret war will be fought to overwrite reality itself–the first in a dazzling new fantasy series from City of Stairs author Robert Jackson Bennett.

Sancia Grado is a thief, and a damn good one. And her latest target, a heavily guarded warehouse on Tevanne’s docks, is nothing her unique abilities can’t handle.

But unbeknownst to her, Sancia’s been sent to steal an artifact of unimaginable power, an object that could revolutionize the magical technology known as scriving. The Merchant Houses who control this magic–the art of using coded commands to imbue everyday objects with sentience–have already used it to transform Tevanne into a vast, remorseless capitalist machine. But if they can unlock the artifact’s secrets, they will rewrite the world itself to suit their aims.

Now someone in those Houses wants Sancia dead, and the artifact for themselves. And in the city of Tevanne, there’s nobody with the power to stop them.

To have a chance at surviving—and at stopping the deadly transformation that’s under way—Sancia will have to marshal unlikely allies, learn to harness the artifact’s power for herself, and undergo her own transformation, one that will turn her into something she could never have imagined.

I loved this book. It is an Italian based dark fantasy/steampunk that was fantastic. I cannot even begin to tell you all how much I liked this book. If you like dark fantasy mixed with steampunk, pick this book up when it is published. Publication date is August 21st, 2018. Be on the lookout for my review then.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted bySam at Taking on a World of Wars. So here what I have read/are reading/will be reading.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So, I am back from vacation. It was a good time. Relaxing at times. Got to see family that we haven’t seen in a couple of years. Surprisingly, I didn’t do a lot of reading. I was too busy. Next week, BFA for WoW rolls out. Yay!!!

What I am currently reading:

Incognito

(click on the picture for Amazon link)

A new adult STANDALONE college romance from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis.

A troubled popstar forced into hiding… A sweet small-town girl overcoming tragedy… And the kind of love that only happens once in a lifetime.

Dakota’s dreams of attending Juilliard were shattered the night tragedy struck her family. It’s one year later, and she’s now enrolled at a local university trying to piece her life back together.

Shawn is one of the world’s most famous faces, having lived under a spotlight since his star exploded when he was fourteen. Now jaded by an industry forcing him to perform music he no longer enjoys, he craves normalcy and the opportunity to rediscover his muse. When a crazy stalker gets too close, and death threats start mounting, Shawn’s management team comes up with a plan—one which will allow him to work on his latest album while staying incognito on a college campus.

Romance is the last thing on Dakota’s mind, but after she crosses paths with a hot, prickly cutie with rock-hard abs and smoldering good looks, she can’t shake him from her thoughts.

Shawn can’t afford to bring any girl into his fucked-up life, but the gorgeous blonde with the sad blue eyes captivates him in a way no girl ever has, and he finds himself falling hard and fast.

But outside forces are conspiring against them.

When danger draws closer, and secrets are revealed, will their love survive?

I started this last night and am only a chapter into it. So far, it seems good but its hard to judge from one chapter. A typical NA romance. But sometimes you need typical. Be on the lookout for my review of Incognito within the next couple of weeks (maybe earlier if I can get through my backlog of reviews).

What I finished reading:

Deliverers (Mud, Rocks, and Trees #6)

(click on the picture for Amazon link)

“Our pride rules the empire now.” A new era has begun in Tzoladia! But lions are not the only things prowling the streets. The brash young ruler has inherited an empire full of divisions, intrigue, assassins, and disease. Have the last days arrived? Where are The Deliverers?

Brina matches wits with the ruthless and brutal Bladar. Amanki fights the faceless and deadly blue sickness. Moshoi battles the restless and all-consuming desires of his own heart. Three Seals. Three Deliverers. One last chance. Will anyone escape Tzoladia alive?

This book blew me away. It was the last book in the Mud, Rocks, and Trees series. I can’t get over what happened in the book. Talk about mind blown. Be on the lookout for my review within the next couple of weeks.

What I am reading next (click on books for Amazon links):

The Last Straw (Pigeon-Blood Red Book 2)Foundryside (Founders, #1)Strange CircumstancesMaybe for You (Whiskey and Weddings, #3)

Foundryside: I am a huge fantasy fan. A huge one. So when I read the blurb and saw the cover of this book, I needed to read it. I am hoping that it lives up to my mental hype. This book will be published on August 21st, 2018. So be on the lookout for my review on or after that date.

Strange Circumstances: Fate: I am a big fan of Weston Kincade. But I am not a fan of short story anthologies. So, we’ll see. Will I like it or not? Be on the lookout for my review.

Maybe for You: I like romance novels. So when the publisher sent me the email link for this book, I jumped on it. Plus, I loved the cover!! This book won’t be published until August 28th, so be on the lookout for my review either on or after that date.
