Book Tag: Are You Ready for Sweater Weather

I want to thank Paige@BookishPaige for tagging me in this. I never do tags. Mainly because I don’t get the time to do them. But, with all 3 kids in school now, I have plenty of time!!!

You can find the original tag at Amanda & Antonia @ Classy x Book Reviews. So check them out, if you can. Also, check Paige’s blog out. She is a lovely person and her blog is fantastic!!

1. Hot Chocolate: What is your comfort book?

Hrrrmmmm. This is a tough one. I have a lot of favorite books. If I had to choose my top two, they would be:

Heather and Velvet
Heather and Velvet by Teresa Medeiros
Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1)
Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop

I have read and reread both of these books over and over again. I love them!!

2. Pumpkin Carving: What is your favorite creative outlet?

I love to bake and try new recipes. I spend my weekends baking cakes, cookies, brownies…etc.

3. Falling Leaves: Changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

Moving. I won’t admit it to people in person but I love moving. Nothing like starting over.

4. Pumpkin Spiced Latte: Something you love that others tend to judge?

Chick flicks and bad B sci fi/horror movies. Yup, I am that one person who loves them. I binge watch after the kids go to bed. Which reminds me, Hulu has their Huluween up. Can’t wait to check it out!!

5. Bonfire Night: What makes you explode with joy?

My kids getting along for more than 5 mins. Ok, that’s sarcastic (but it does make me happy). I love it when I get approved for an ARC that I have been salivating over. Or an author does a shout out to me via Facebook/Twitter.

6. Fright Night: Favorite scary film or book?

My favorite scary film is The Grudge. I do not scare easily and this movie scared the poop out of me. Funny story: I had just started dating BK and watched it with him in the theater. Got back to my apartment and my cat (a huge black cat named Bob Denver, shortened to Denver) started making the same noise the cat did in the movie. In the middle of the night. I freaked out, made BK come over and check everything. I didn’t sleep that night at all…lol.

My favorite scary book is The Stand. I get scared everytime I read this book. It scares me because I have no problem imaging something like this happening. Also, I get a cold every single time I read this book. Every single time!!!

7. Halloween Candy: Favorite thing to eat?

For Halloween: Well, it would be bite sized Snickers. Love those!!

In general: Chinese food, burgers from Burger King and BK’s Mexican Hot Water Cake that he makes. Talk about deliciousness!!

8. Scarves: Your must-have accessory?

I need to have my phone on me at all times. I can’t leave without my purse. I also don’t leave the house without a spritz of perfume. Right now, I’m wearing Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. I also need to have my rings on. One is my engagement ring and the other is a moonstone.

9. Fire: A book or film that burns your soul?

Film: Not a film but a TV Show. Carnival Row. I couldn’t believe the ending and am waiting for Season 2!!

Book: The Kilwade Tragedy. This book ripped out my heart and served it back to me on a platter.

10. Toffee Apples: A book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside?

Look For Me Under the Rainbow. I thought that this was going to be a cute kids book about a seal pup and his adventures. Nope. This book ended up being about the slaughter of the harp seal pups and the activists who are trying to stop it.

So, that’s it. Hope you enjoyed my answers. As for who I am tagging, well I am tagging everyone!!!

Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag—July 2019

I have been seeing this come up a ton on the blogs that I follow. So I figured, why not!! So, here I go!!

Goodreads Challenge

Since I am technology impared today (I can’t get my Goodreads challenge to show up here), here are my stats:

I have read 120 books out of 250. I am 48% done with my challenge and am 7 books behind schedule. Which isn’t bad considering I had some real life challenges thrown my way!!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2019

This is a hard one. I have read so many good books this year. But the winner is:

I loved this book. It struck a nerve with me while reading it and I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I was done.

I absolutely loved this sequel. Loved, loved, loved it!!

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To

The Farm: A Novel by [Ramos, Joanne]

This is on my must read list. I keep seeing reviews for it on blogs I follow. As soon as I am done with my backlog, this will be the first book I read.

Most Anticipated Release of the Second Half of 2019

The Grace Year

The Girl the Sea Gave Back

I was psyched when I got approved for The Grace Year. I was also psyched when my wish got granted for The Girl the Sea Gave Back. Hoping that these books are as good as the blurbs make them out to me.

Biggest Disappointment:

Let's Talk About Sext (Let's Talk About Sext, #1)
Review here

Awful female main character, pushover male main character, lack of any sort of sexual attraction. Just a small bit of what disappointed me about this book. Which is sad because I had read Evie Claire’s books before and loved them.

I thought that the story itself was good. But I couldn’t get past the main characters.

Biggest Surprise

Darwin's Cipher
review here

I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did. I couldn’t put the book down!!

Favorite New to You or Debut Author:

Kingdom of Exiles (The Beast Charmer, #1)
review here

I devoured this book and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Favorite Crush:

Touch of Smoke

Owen Amir – A Touch of Smoke. He was the complete package. He was head over heels for Rikki. He also risked everything for her.

Favorite Character:

I got two from the same book:

Cruel Intentions (Rydeville High Elite #1)
my review here

Abby: She was tough as nails and didn’t back down from anyone. I loved her!!

Cam: Even though he was a jerk for most of the book, I loved him.

Book That Made You Cry:

Mrs. Everything
my review here

Book That Made You Happy:

Can't Stand the Heat? (Welcome to Otter Tail Book 2)
my review here

Keeping Lucy: A Novel

Book to Movie Adaptation:

Eh, I just realized that I haven’t seen any book to movie adaptations so far this year.

Favorite Blog Post of Mine:

People really seem to still be digging my review of The Sweetest Oblivion. Since I don’t do discussion posts (I would rather read), that will have to do.

Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

My review of Cruel Intentions. I loved that book!!!

Most Beautiful Book You Bought or Received So Far This Year?

I won these two books off of Goodreads. Which never happens, so I am excited to be showing them off…lol.

I'll Never Tell

Southern Sass and Killer Cravings (Marygene Brown #1)

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

Oh boy, that is a loaded question. So, I’ll just take a few off of my “waiting to be review pile” that haven’t been on here yet

Steel Crow Saga
Nocturne in Ashes (Riley Forte #1)
The Orchid Throne (Forgotten Empires, #1)

This is where I am supposed to tag people. But, instead, I am going to leave this open ended. Can’t wait to read everyone’s!!
