Book Synopsis:

It happened at the worst possible time…

Nobody knows my terrible secret – not my friends, not my colleagues, not even my powerful father. All this time, I’ve been living and working amongst them as a respected, high-powered Alpha woman.

The only thing saving me from certain ruin and the destruction of my dreams are the suppressants I take daily, the medication I’ve been using to hide in plain sight. Because, in truth, I’m an Omega.

And then the unthinkable happens. The suppressants stop working in a crowded room full of Alpha men, one of whom decides we’re fated to be together.

He will pursue me until I surrender but while my body craves him, I refuse to give up my life to become nothing more than an Alpha’s mate…

Publisher’s Note: This dark MF Omegaverse romance contains elements of power exchange and explicit scenes which may trigger some readers.

Excerpt:

Evander was used to her haughtiness, her fits of temper, her icy self-control. But seeing this new vulnerable, broken side of her made something deep in his chest crack open and ache. “The gods saw fit to put us together,” he said, forcing himself to remain calm, “and you agreed. You said you were mine forever.”

“I said that because I’m in heat!” she wailed. “Because when you put your hands on me, when you do… those things, I’m no longer myself!”

“I disagree. I think you’re more yourself when you’re naked and underneath me than at any other time. You like to pretend to be an independent, icy cool Alpha but you’re an Omega at heart, sweetness. This is the real you.”

USA Today bestselling author Tabitha Black has been writing erotic romance for well over a decade, mostly in the age-play and historical genres. More recently, she’s discovered the joys of writing more contemporary books with a greater emphasis on BDSM, as well as darker, edgier fiction.

Having lived in four countries on three different continents, she likes to “write to discover what she knows.”

She has a weakness for great coffee, strong, kind but dominant men, and tattoos. At the time of writing, she lives in Germany with her very own dominant, sadistic and loyal romantic hero, and a lilac cat who likes to sneeze in her face.

Book Synopsis:

They wanted a girl quickly so they chose an orphanage where no one would ask questions.

They planned to use her until she was pregnant…

Instead they got twenty-one-year-old American Starla Anderson.

When the Russian Mafia invades the orphanage where she lives, in the middle of the night, throwing the nuns who raised her, into a petrified frenzy, it’s Starla who is chosen as the only one who could possibly survive the Bratva and their demands.

But in spite of her own fear of the three massive, glowering and scary men, Starla has to think and act fast…

With her heart thundering in her chest, her body on fire at their presence alone, she sees an opportunity, something that might help the other girls at the impoverished orphanage at a chance of a better life. She lays out her only condition.

Her body for a fee…

Except…

No one says no to the Bratva.

Excerpt:

The room seemed to steam up. She never thought she would ever feel warm again let alone hot but now the deathly cold winter’s night couldn’t even penetrate her skin. She was burning up, too hot to touch… And she had promised to behave.

In reply he squeezed a little harder, the heat of his body poured onto her, the scent of him, his cologne, his power seeped into her skin and panicked her senses. She couldn’t understand the wave of heat rushing through her body or how her curiosity in him spiked the woman in her.

The atmosphere around her felt doused with fuel. And the tension from their own bodies set the air to fire. She couldn’t tell anything by their expressions. She just wanted the earth to swallow her up and keep her there. Forever.

The way he said her name caught her off guard. She wanted him to say it again and again and again. She wanted to hear her name from Mikhail’s lips. She wanted to hear Nikolay say her name, his mouth caressing the syllables of her name just like she wanted him to caress her with heat and not ice. How she craved to hear her name fall from their lips.

What was wrong with her? They were the enemy.

“Turn around,” he said pronouncing every word in Russian.

Starla had run out of things to say and think and so she did the only thing she was capable of doing. She stuck her tongue out at him. Like really hard.

“Do that one more time.” He dared.

And so she did.

And he, this massive hulking form of a man, maybe twice and half her size, moved with the lightning speed of a cheetah and clamped his teeth down on her tongue stuck out between her lips.

He stunned her into utter silence, shocked her to her core, and destroyed her mind. If she was lost for thought before, now every cognitive facility she had curled up and died.

But then Mikhail released her and Dimitry, handling her as if she weighed a feather, swung her around to face him, her legs straddling him. She kept herself poised in the air, even though her pussy cried for friction. She reached out and held her hands against his chest to balance herself.

His hand slipped to her waist, his gaze, that hard cruel gaze of him fixed on her. No pressure, no coercion. Just resting there like a million tons of heat. But how he destroyed her. She whimpered like an injured kitten. Distraught beyond reason.

She knew what she was going to do. They knew what she was going to do. And she couldn’t stop herself.

Book Synopsis:

Abby Callier is more in love with Shakespearean heroes than any real man, and she’s beginning to wonder if there is life for her outside the pages of a book. It doesn’t help that her esteemed parents tend to view her as they would one of their science experiments gone wrong. On the eve of finishing her dissertation, she escapes her staid existence to live in the house she inherited from her Great Aunt Evie in the small town of Echo Springs, Colorado. Because, let’s face it, when a woman starts comparing her life to horror films, it might be time for a break.

Sheriff Nate Barnes believes in law and order and carefully building the life you want. In his spare time, he has been remodeling his house in the hope that one day it will be filled with the family he makes. But Nate doesn’t like drama or complications and tends to avoid them at all costs. And yet, when Miss Abigail Callier, his newest neighbor, beans him with a nine iron, he can’t help but wonder if she might just be the complication he’s been searching for all along. It doesn’t hurt that he discovers a journal hidden away by the previous tenant and decides to use Old Man Turner’s advice to romance Abby into his life.

Abby never expected her next-door neighbor, the newly dubbed Sheriff Stud Muffin, to be just the distraction her world needed.

The problem is she doesn’t know whether she should make Echo Springs her home, or if this town is just a stopover point in her life’s trajectory. And she doesn’t want to tell Nate that she might not be sticking around—even though she should because it’s the right thing to do, the honest thing—because then all the scintillatingly hot kisses with the Sheriff will come to an abrupt halt. Did she mention that he’s a really great kisser?

First Line:

Oh brother!

The Fixer Upper by Maggie Mae Gallagher

My Review:

When I started reading The Fixer Upper, I was in the mood for a light-hearted romance. I needed a book where I didn’t have to keep track of plotlines, characters, and all that stuff, which I got with The Fixer Upper.

The Fixer Upper had two main plotlines but a subplot line that I thought was interesting. The plotlines were easy to read, and they moved along at a medium pace. There was lag in the plotline last half of the book, but the author was able to get the book back on track.

I liked Abby. Her sense of humor was well written. I agree with her about porcelain dolls; they are creepy. Her nickname for Nate was hilarious. But I got bored with her, as weird as that sounds. Her character became flat to me. Even making her choice where she was going to teach was bleh to me.

I liked Nate. I did think it was creepy that he knew everything about her (from her great aunt, but still). But my creepiness was squashed when the author showed what a good guy he was. But, like with Abby, I got bored with him.

The romance between Nate and Abby was red hot. Who thought that cutting firewood would be a turn on? Even their exchanged looks were sexy. I loved how Abby justified her attraction to him. Again, she had me rolling on the floor, laughing. And the sex scene where Rufus stuck his nose in Abby’s butt. OMG!!! Hilarious!!

The plotline where Nate was investigating the burglaries was interesting. I did figure out who was doing them before Nate did. I did feel that plotline ending was rushed.

I loved the storyline involving Abby’s aunt and the old owner of Nate’s house. Talk about sweet and sad. I also liked the bits of advice at the beginning of each chapter (that was taken from the diary).

I wasn’t thrilled with the end of The Fixer Upper. It seemed rushed. What happened didn’t jive with me. I wanted an epilogue or another chapter to add to what happened. The author did leave the book open for book 2. I am curious who the next couple will be.

The Fixer Upper was a sweet romance. There was some lag, but the author was able to pull the book back on track. I did find the main characters pleasant but got bored with them towards the end of the book. The romance was sweet, and the sex was hot. I liked the storylines, even if I thought the ending was rushed.

I would give The Fixer Upper an Adult rating. There is sex. There is language. There is violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would reread The Fixer Upper. I would recommend it to family and friends.

**I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**

Tell me, when was the last time you felt the innocence of being a child: carefree and without worry?” he asked gently.

Sighing and allowing her shoulders to collapse in a slump, she answered. “I do not remember ever being carefree and without worry, Mr. Hartley. I do not have the luxury in life to do so.”

“Do you not wish sometimes that you could be like a child? Have no worries, no concerns of misfortune, and no hard decisions to make. Have you ever wished to have someone take care of you, fully take care of your every need? Have you ever wanted to be tucked in at night, kissed on the forehead and told to have sweet dreams, and you would, because someone who loves you very much has already chased the bad dreams away?”

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Wars.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What I am currently reading:

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

Survive the year.

No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden.

In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. They believe their very skin emits a powerful aphrodisiac, the potent essence of youth, of a girl on the edge of womanhood. That’s why they’re banished for their sixteenth year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive.

Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life—a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear. It’s not even the poachers in the woods, men who are waiting for a chance to grab one of the girls in order to make a fortune on the black market. Their greatest threat may very well be each other.

The Grace Year has been on my must read list for a few months. But, I kept having to put it off (real life issues). So, I was excited when I looked at my list of ARC’s to read and it was next. I read a chapter last night and can’t wait to continue reading it.

The Grace Year is currently available for pre-order. Its expected publication date is October 8th. Be on the lookout for my review after that date.

I recently finished reading:

Rise of the Dragon (The Legend Series: Book 5) by Kylie Stewart

Alexandria is now The Duchess of Avalon, Arthur’s wife and rightful queen. Love declared, promised kept, and title won. Her victory, however fleeting, will cost her dearly.

Avalon now faces the full force of what Mordred has planned for him and his knights. But what he doesn’t know is that one among them has a secret.

Will the person in hiding prove to be friend, enemy, or something else entirely?

And what happens when a ghost from the past resurfaces not as a friend, but as mortal enemy?

Rise of the Dragon is book five of The Legend Series based off of the Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

I was disappointed when I saw that I missed out on book 4 of the series. When I started Rise of the Dragon, I felt that I was missing something. But, nonetheless, it was a good read. An excellent modern retelling of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Rise of the Dragon is currently available for purchase. Be on the lookout for my review with in the next week.

What books I think I’ll read next:

What Rose Forgot by Nevada Barr

In New York Times bestselling author Nevada Barr’s gripping standalone, a grandmother in her sixties emerges from a mental fog to find she’s trapped in her worst nightmare

Rose Dennis wakes up in a hospital gown, her brain in a fog, only to discover that she’s been committed to an Alzheimer’s Unit in a nursing home. With no memory of how she ended up in this position, Rose is sure that something is very wrong. When she overhears one of the administrators saying about her that she’s “not making it through the week,” Rose is convinced that if she’s to survive, she has to get out of the nursing home. She avoids taking her medication, putting on a show for the aides, then stages her escape.

The only problem is—how does she convince anyone that she’s not actually demented? Her relatives were the ones to commit her, all the legal papers were drawn up, the authorities are on the side of the nursing home, and even she isn’t sure she sounds completely sane. But any lingering doubt Rose herself might have had is erased when a would-be killer shows up in her house in the middle of the night. Now Rose knows that someone is determined to get rid of her.

With the help of her computer hacker/recluse sister Marion, thirteen-year old granddaughter Mel, and Mel’s friend Royal, Rose begins to gather her strength and fight back—to find out who is after her and take back control of her own life. But someone out there is still determined to kill Rose, and they’re holding all the cards.
