#SixforSunday—Bookish Resolutions

SixforSundays is a meme hosted by A Little But A LotEvery month there is a theme and that is broken down on Sundays into categories.

This week’s theme is:

Bookish Resolutions

I tend not to make New Year Resolutions. I end up giving up within a couple of weeks of making them (yes, I am awful like that). But this year, well I think I made a few bookish resolutions (which I went over in this post). So, here is my list. Enjoy

  1. Reading books outside my comfort zone. I am a creature of habit and that extends to reading. I stay to the same genres, all the time. It gets kind of boring. So, I am going to try to read more biographies/autobiographies/memoirs/nonfiction.
  2. Staying up to date with my reading challenges. I sucked at this last year. Now, in my defense, I did join a bunch on StoryGraph in August/September. And add to that, I didn’t know how to add books to the challenges. I figured out that you needed to add the book to the challenge (before you read it) and then StoryGraph takes care of it once you finished the book (you need to finish it, add a review and read date). So now that I have everything figured out, I should be good to go!!!
  3. Whittling down my TBR list. It is out of control. I keep adding books and not taking them away. I did knock off around 40 something books last year but I added double that back on (thank you reading challenges)
  4. Finishing series!! I am awful about this one. I will read the first book in a series and never complete it.
  5. Reading more middle grade book. This is one that I keep saying every year and every year, I keep putting it off.
  6. Enjoy reading. I lost this in the first half of 2020, when Covid first hit. It sucked but I did eventually regain it. I am hoping to keep my love of reading alive and well in 2021.

So, these are my resolutions. Will I keep them, maybe. Please, let me know what your resolutions are!! I’d love to hear about them.

  1. Great goals! Reading more outside of my comfort zone is also on my list, although for me this means reading more fiction. I could recommend some great memoirs and autobiographies to you if you want.

      1. What types. Of memoirs would you like to read? I mean, I mainly read very emotional memoirs, such as foster care and abuse survivor memoirs, but not sure you’d like that.

      2. I like those too!! The last memoir type book that I read was A Child Called It.

      3. Oh, I haven’t read that one, but I have certainly read many similar books. My favorite memoir author is Cathy Glass. She writes memoirs about the children she cared for as a foster carer. Casey Watson and Maggie Hartley are other foster carer authors. They’re all UK-based but you’ll probably be able to find them on Amazon.com too. Another favorite of mine is The Hospital by Barbara O’Hare. This is an intriguing memoir of survival of experiments in a children’s psych hospital.

  2. Series reading was one of my goals too, It’s funny you mention losing the love of reading…getting that back is something I’m working on too.

    1. The first half of 2020 killed reading for me. I am gradually getting it back. It helped that I stopped taking review requests/ARC’s.

  3. These are all great goals Jolie. I have not heard of Storygraph. I am glad it is something that works for you. I need to do all these things as well, except the memoir ones. I read about a half dozen memoirs or autobiographies a year. If you haven’t read Born a Crime by Trevor Noah, it is wonderful and he narrates the audiobook. I have also enjoyed the Julie Andrews books. I am going to be listening to Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey this week. I have also heard the Jessica Simpson book is quite good.

Good luck with these goals for 2021.

    1. Thank you Carla!! I highly recommend Storygraph. Its a lot easier to navigate than Goodreads. I do have Born a Crime on my TBR and I am going to add Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Simpson now.

      What are your goals?

      1. Mine are to increase by NG ratio to 70% which means stop requesting, less blog tours, and do less challenges, which means, popup ones that I jump into and wreck my TBR.

      2. Those sounds like great goals!! I added a late on onto mine. Accept 4 ARC or reviews a month. Keeping my fingers crossed that we both can stick to them!!
