Quick Update

Hey all,

I know I haven’t been around in a while. I got very overwhelmed with reading, writing reviews, and balancing my home life (aka homeschooling my kids). So I decided to cut out reading and blogging. I needed to focus on getting them through the school year. Then I needed to take some time to adjust to the new normal.

I also was very overwhelmed with my blogging schedule. I had gotten over my head with NetGalley (I had over 50 books that needed to be read and reviewed), along with independent authors whose books that I agreed to review. So, at the beginning of quarantine (and I mentioned this in a previous post), I contacted every single one of the indie authors and explained that I couldn’t review their books. Thankfully, 98% of them understood. I did get blessed out by a couple of authors but oh well. Then, I went to NetGalley and did the same thing.

That’s when I went to radio silence on here. I didn’t even read. Looking at my Kindle set my anxiety off. But, after 3 months of not reading, I got bored. I went onto my TBR pile on Goodreads, selected the first book and started reading again. It felt amazing!!

What does that mean for reviews in the future?

Well, I will be reviewing (yay!!) but I will not be reviewing through NetGalley or reviewing any ARC’s anymore. I am going to focus on writing reviews of books from my TBR (I have over 600 books on there) and Want to Read (over 450 books) lists. Those are books that I want to read, books that interest me.

I will not be giving star ratings on my blog. Goodread and The StoryGraph, yes. Here, no. I don’t like them. They are too varied with meanings.

I am aiming to have reviews 3xs a week with a couple of weekly posts thrown in. When school starts, my posting will go down. NC hasn’t decided what they are going to do with school yet. So, if the district does what I think it will (50% capacity with the kids going on certain days), I will have to cut back.

I will be starting to read blogs and like them again!!

I have missed everyone and can’t wait to get back into blogging again!!

I love to read. My favorite genres women's fiction, romance (including erotica), psychological thrillers, fantasy, and young adult. I also enjoy steampunk, dystopian, LGBTQIA, and paranormal. I am also a busy mom of 3 kids.

  1. I didn’t know you were in NC too. It’s craziness in my county with people rebelling against face masks. I hope they do figure out a way to open schools, it is much needed. Glad will be blogging again 🙂

    1. Thank you!! It was definately a learning curve, that’s for sure. If the schools decide to continue online learning next year, then I am prepared.

  3. So glad you found your way back to your love of books! ARCs can definitely be sooo overwhelming, I rarely accept them because I got overwhelmed with them back when I first started blogging. It’s definitely important to enjoy what we’re doing! Welcome back!!!

  4. I totally get how difficult it can be to home school your children and yours are varied ages, which is even more difficult. I am glad things are settling down now that school is out for the summer and you are able to destress. If reading causes stress or you don’t enjoy it, then I agree it is time for a change. Glad you found something that works for you Jolie. I look forward to seeing you blogging happily again.
