Quarantine: I honestly forget what week we’re on

I really do. I can’t tell you what week we’re on here (I think its week 5…not sure). I will tell you that NC’s stay at home order is supposed to end on April 30th and the kids are supposed to go back to school on May 16th. Will both happen? Probably not. I am not a glass type empty type person but with people not following social distancing, I think it will be extended.

In this past month, I have come to terms with the fact that I am not cut out to teach anyone. It has been tough on the kids. They are missing their friends and teachers. Miss B is more upset because this is her last year of middle school. She is going to an Career Arts and Magnet High School. The girls she’s friends with, they are going to the regular high school. So she won’t be seeing them again. They won’t be having a graduation ceremony either.

I am going to admit that I haven’t been reading at all. By the time the kids eat supper and are on wind down time, I am exhausted. Instead, I have been playing video games. ESO, the Sims 4 (and I found some adult mods for the game….which made is much more interesting….lol), Final Fantasy X and X2 and Final Fantasy IX (ESO, and the Final Fantasies are on Steam and they are remastered!!).

I am trying to figure out how I am going to jumpstart this blog again. But, with my free time being taken up by homeschooling, I don’t see it happening until after the kids get out of school. Fortunately, their projected last day of school is May 29th. I am hoping to start getting new content on the blog after that date. So keep your fingers crossed.

I love to read. My favorite genres women's fiction, romance (including erotica), psychological thrillers, fantasy, and young adult. I also enjoy steampunk, dystopian, LGBTQIA, and paranormal. I am also a busy mom of 3 kids.

  1. We officially started week 6 here in California, it’s unreal if I think about it. 6 weeks of the same old, every day. I wasn’t able to concentrate on new books, and had to take a reading break and watched Netflix for two weeks. Afterwards I started re-reading favorite books and I also found that audiobooks work very well for me. They actually keep me captivated and hold my attention.

    1. I was thinking of starting audiobooks. My 6-year-old has a lot of instructions over the computer. That means I’m usually sitting on the couch or standing near her during her lesson and I’m usually staring into space (TV is off during those times). I might try that!!

      1. It’s a great way to get some reading in, and you can still watch her but you are also listening to something. It’s time well spent, especially if you would have just looked into space.

  2. I am with you on not having a clue about which week of quarantine I’m on. But I know things first hit here in Louisiana around the second week of March. So, not quite to the 2 month period yet here. I can say that I’ve had it easier than most because I already homeschool my kids. And it’s a lot easier than what y’all are having to do with having public school at home. So, I feel for you and all the kiddos that are missing out on big things they were looking forward to. I know this is especially hard for all of those in graduation positions. That being said, I’ve still been a very moody reader this month. In the meantime, good luck finding the right balance at home with all of the changes!

  3. Hi Jolie, I’m also getting lost between calendar days as they pile up. Looking forward to resume my travels once life goes back to normal – and I usually read on the way to destinations. Will keep an eye on your blog for some suggested reads! Good luck with the homeschooling 🙂 Nadia

  4. It’s week four here and I was very tired of doing same old same old stuff every day so I decided to start my own book blog and put all my reviews online. Now I have posts to look forward to. I hope everything becomes better soon because I know that nothing is going to go back to the way it once was.

    1. I look forward to reading your posts!! I’m hoping to have new content up by the end of May (my kids last day of school is May 29th). And I know 😦
