Clark and Adelaide think their lives can’t get any worse. Until they meet each other.
Adelaide — heiress to the wealthiest man in the Ceithren Empire — has felt a void since her sister’s death. Just as she’s resigned herself to the empty life her father chose for her, a relic from a world that shouldn’t exist plunges her into chaos.
Clark — son of the greatest terrorist the empire has ever known — is still reeling from his father’s death. Since then, his life has boiled down to two things: his brothers and his next mission. When his mission to bring back a mystical artifact goes awry, he’s forced to choose between getting the job done and saving the life of a spoiled socialite.
But Clark isn’t the only one after the artifact.
He and Adelaide must work together to survive… if only they can manage to avoid killing each other before their enemies have the chance.
Clark. It was a deceptively mild name for a kidnapper. And his face was all wrong. He didn’t look menacing with his cocky mouth and square jaw and perfectly tousled hair. Whose hair looked like that after wearing a helmet?
For that matter, who kidnapped someone and then introduced themselves?
Yet here we were.
I parted my lips to scream, but he lunged forward. One of his gloved hands covered my mouth while he brought the other around to grab me.
I had been helpless once already this week, and I’d be damned if it was going to happen again. I aimed a low kick with my knee, and he dropped to the ground.
My heartbeat thundered in my ears, so loud I could hardly think over the noise.
He won’t stay down long.
I was injured and exhausted and half his size, so there was no chance of outrunning him. But I did have nerve gas. He was already getting to his feet when I pulled the small canister from my wristlet, aiming it for his face. Before I had time to straighten my arm out, his hand covered mine, reversing the spray.
There was a fleeting moment of paralyzing fear, and then there was nothing at all.
The name Robin D. Mahle represents a dynamic husband and wife storytelling team. They’ve travelled the world for both love and war, and a tale began to form between the two of them that just had to be told. One’s love of anime and comics collided with the other’s love of fiction novels to produce a story with action, captivating dialogue, and riveting prose.
The female piece to the puzzle that is Robin spends her days as a captioner for the deaf and hard of hearing. She loves to read, write, and loves all things Doctor Who. A Marine Corps veteran, her husband homeschools their offspring, lovingly nicknamed Thing 1 and Thing 2. He loves to write and spend time in his garden. They also have two fur babies: a standard full-sized poodle and a persian cat. Their family lives in Colorado after a lifetime of being way too hot in Texas.
