Throwback Thursday: May 17th, 2018

I decided to do Throwback Thursday but blog style. I am going to select a book I have read before and see if I would still read it. So, here goes nothing!!

For this week’s Throwback Thursday, I am featuring a book about a vampire:

The Vampire Lestat (The Vampire Chronicles, #2)

Author: Anne Rice

Date of publication: 1985

Genre: Horror, Fantasy, Paranormal

Where you can find The Vampire Lestat: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Book synopsis (from Goodreads):

Once an aristocrat in the heady days of pre-revolutionary France, now Lestat is a rockstar in the demonic, shimmering 1980s. He rushes through the centuries in search of others like him, seeking answers to the mystery of his terrifying exsitence. His story, the second volume in Anne Rice’s best-selling Vampire Chronicles, is mesmerizing, passionate, and thrilling.

Have I reviewed anything else by Anne Rice? No. I read The Vampire Lestat when I was in high school, so no review because Goodreads/Amazon/Wordpress wasn’t around back then.

Have I read other books by this author? Yes. I have read almost all of her books.

Did I like this book when I first read it? Yes. It appealed to a teenaged me.

If I reread this book, would I like it? Yes. I have reread it a few times (before I lost all of my paperbacks in a moving mishap). The last time was in 2013 when I logged it on Goodreads.

Age I first read The Vampire Lestat? 16-17 years old. My mother had heard of it (don’t know how she knew about it) and told me that it was porn and that she didn’t want me reading it. Which had the exact opposite effect. As soon as I could, I went to the bookstore and bought it. Read it and loved it. Of course, my mother found out and was pretty steamed but she didn’t take it away. It mysteriously went missing for a couple of months and turned up back in my bedroom. I think she took it and read it…lol.

Would I read The Vampire Lestat now? Yes. Absolutely.

How many stars would I give it:

Teenage me: 5 stars. Absolutely loved the book. Couldn’t get enough of Lestat.

Middle Age Me: 4 stars. Remembering that I got bored of all the sex in the book but loved the rich, complex world that Anne Rice created. Can’t believe that I got bored with the sex. Jeesh, what is wrong with me.
