Book Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Brody Watson has been chasing after Willow Brooks for a while now, and he is positive his latest act will win her over. Well he hopes it will. He has not been one to settle down, but now that he has found what he believes to be his one true love he is not going to let her go.
Willow Brooks is a very hard worker. Ever since she lost her grandmother she has put her whole life into her work. She has grown her catering business into a huge success. She has given up looking for her brother who was adopted when he was born. She has resigned her fate to be alone with no family, except for maybe Brody. He seems to be perusing her hard and not giving up on her. That is something that she is starting to like.
Can Brody win Willow over, or will she decide that she is better off alone. She can’t lose her heart and risk it getting hurt that way.
Come and join me in finding out how this love story turns out.
Trigger Warning: None
I thought that Building on Love would be one of those romances where everything is textbook. Guy chases after the girl for a couple of weeks. The girl wasn’t sure about how she feels about him. A tragedy happens, either to her or him and bam, they are in love. Not in this book. It was that difference that made me enjoy reading this book.
There is one thing that I want to mention. It is not stated but you need to read Flowers with Love by the same author before you read this book. While this book has its own series, Building on Love is 100% intertwined with Flowers with Love. The characters from that book are a major part of this book. To be honest, that drove me nuts. I appreciated seeing Piper and Zane have their happy ending but I wish it had stayed more in the background.
The author did something that I haven’t seen done in books. She introduced the characters for the next book about halfway through this one. I am on the fence if I like it or not. I like it because it shows that those characters are building a relationship. A relationship that will have a story of its own. I don’t like it because it leaves no surprise about to who will fall for who.
Willow had issues trusting men. So when Brody started his pursuit of her, she held back. I don’t blame her. Willow’s past left her unable to trust men. She didn’t appreciate Brody’s attention at first. Actually, she didn’t want his attention. She was happy being single. If my DNA went to a database without my permission, I wouldn’t have been happy. Even if it was to find a long-lost brother. It would have been a deal breaker for me. Willow didn’t care. She loved that her brother was finally in her life.
I will admit, Brody came across as a tad stalkerish to me. Willow asked him for space and he couldn’t do it. He had to talk to her, be near her. He even thought that finding her brother was a way to her heart. I read those chapters with a grin, a cringe and a hope that his gambit would pan out. Which it did. Brody was romantic. I was sighing over the way he proposed to Willow.
There is sex in Building on Love. While not graphic by any means, there was still an erotic punch when reading those scenes. Those sex scenes were very tastefully written!!
The end of Building on Love was what I expected it to be. Sweet and a happily ever after!
Building on Love is a sweet romance. The characters are relatable and the plot is great. I enjoyed reading the book. This is a book I would read again.
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex, mild violence, and language. There is a pretty intense scene of a home invasion.
