My Review:
When I found out that there was going to be a book 2 in the Cage series, I was pretty excited. I enjoyed reading Caged Light. So when Tom emailed me and let me know that Crimson Cage was available for review. I jumped on it. I am glad I did because this book lived up to the first one.
Crimson Cage picks up about 2 years after the end of Caged Light. Wyatt has found love with the beautiful Jessica and they had a daughter, Natalie. Wyatt thinks that the events of his past were only going to be a one-time thing. He has also made an uneasy peace with his heritage. But things have a way of going south and for Wyatt, his world was blown apart in a spectacular way. He starts to have visions about a faceless boy who is pleading with him to help him. He also finds out that he has a son and that son has the ability to destroy the world. He is brought into a murder/missing child investigation that tests him. The question is, will he rise up to the challenge that is set before him. Will he believe in God and God’s plans for him or will he crumble and allow Hell’s forces to swarm over the world.
Wyatt didn’t change much from Caged Light. He was still the reformed assassin for a street gang turned police officer. I did like that the author made him have a love interest and a family. But what I liked is that he didn’t lose his edge at all. He was still very tuned into the demonic and angelic presences that showed up in his dreams and real life. The shock he felt at being told that he had a half-demon son was mirrored in me. I could understand why he wanted to save him. Even more so when it was revealed what his son could do if left to be raised by demons. His faith in God is what saved him from being tortured to death. Jesus came and cleared the way for him to save his son and the thousands of other children who were abducted.
Crimson Cage is a Christian thriller book. It does not force Christianity down your throat. God, Jesus, and Satan are mentioned and made reference too but the focus of the book is on Wyatt and his struggles. The thriller part of the book was fantastic too. I was kept on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
Surprisingly, there is a sex scene in the book. I say surprisingly because I can count on one hand where overt scenes are used in a Christian book. While some people might complain, I found it refreshing. The sex wasn’t graphic but you knew what was going on. As someone who reads a lot of romance books, some of them graphic, I enjoyed the sex scene. It was written just right.
The end of Crimson Cage was a bit of a cliffhanger. I was also a little surprised at the change one of the main characters made. But it made me want to read the 3rd book. I need to find out if my intuition about that character is true or not. I also need to know what Wyatt saw will come true or not.
In conclusion, I enjoyed reading Crimson Cage. It was full of action scenes. It also kept me on the edge of my seat thriller wise. The plot was well written and great. I also liked the characters, evil and otherwise, that showed up in the book.
